Pre-conference Student Symposium
Canopyscape: current trends in canopy research and exploration
The world of canopy science is a rapidly expanding interdisciplinary field engaging numerous scientific disciplines and applying them to unlock the mysteries of the world’s forests and treetops. Canopies not only beckon the inquisitive and adventurous but are also pedestals that integrate all fields of scientific investigation. Research in this diverse area of study ranges from general specimen collection, discovery of new species, and documentation of life histories to broad investigations on nutrient cycling patterns, sophisticated population modelling, and ecological impacts in a rapidly changing world. This symposium is an excellent opportunity for students and young researchers venturing into this exciting and adventurous field, to present their independent research at a scientific conference. Additionally, this symposium will serve as an umbrella event to interact with emerging canopy scientists along with a panel of experts to gain valuable feedback on their future goals, aspirations and views. All interested in engaging their peers are encouraged to be present at this symposium.
Chair : Vivek Ramachandran, ATREE - Bangalore
Co-chair : Bryson Voirin, New College of Florida
Roundtable Chair:
Rajit Patankar, University of Toronto
Plan and schedule:
The symposium is planned to consist of 8 student presentations (15+5 min discussion), followed by a round-table discussion with a panel of experts (30 min). It is scheduled for the morning of the 25th of October 2009, as a pre-conference event.
Students who are presenting in the main conference are also encouraged to present their work here as this is a forum for students. Abstract deadline are the same as those for the main conference.
